The Glasgow School Board met in regular session at the District Board Room on May 15. The meeting came just one week after the public rejected a general fund levy request for the fourth consecutive year. Prior to the start of the regular board meeting, the organizational meeting was held. The Glasgow Police Department has hired a new officer to fill a long-standing vacancy following the retirement of former Chief Bruce Barstad. The past few months have been in turns sweet, bittersweet, hopeful, lonesome, loving and grief. The end of January my husband was diagnosed with inoperable bladder cancer. After 10 days in the hospital in Billings we returned home. A month later he entered Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow where he passed away on April 18. He now rests in our family’s cemetery. The Montana Department of Health and Human Services Senior and Long-Term Care Division held a legal documents clinic at the Senior Citizens Center in Glasgow on May 16. For the past 20 years, the FMDH Foundation has held the Foundation’s Open Golf Tournament as its major annual fundraising event. The date for this year’s tournament has been set for Sunday, June 9, at Sunnyside Golf and Country Club in Glasgow. The entrants must be over the age of 18. Gloria J. (Fisher) Doucette, of Fort Peck, Mont., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, in Glasgow, Mont. Gloria was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Nov. 25, 1939, to Thomas and Anne Fisher. The family moved to Minnesota for a short time before relocating to Nashua, Mont., in 1946. After 68 years of life, the last four of them spent courageously fighting cancer. Wesley "Wes" Novak passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Mont., with his wife by his side. Burial of Wes' ashes will be on Sunday, June 30, at 12:30 p.m. at the Nashua Cemetery in Nashua, Mont., with a luncheon to follow at the Nashua Lutheran Church. Donna Mae (Shanks) Austin, 75, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 10, 2019. A service will be announced at a later date. She was born the second daughter of Marvin L. and Jean (Westby) Shanks on June 24, 1943, in Portland, Ore. After World War II ended in 1945 and the war manufacturing machine no longer was needed, the families moved back to Montana residing at the Poplar and Flaxville areas.
