While it's a possible secret to some, it's not a secret to anyone who has been involved in the Valley Event Center. The center is run by volunteers, and has been for over a decade. Each year the Hi-Line Hockey Youth Board, which keeps the event center functioning, honors one of its volunteers for his or her service. While it might seem out of the ordinary to have a snowstorm moving in right after Easter Sunday, the National Weather Service in Glasgow said it actually wasn't very out of the ordinary. A local man recently gained nationally attention, but not in a good way. Keith Morehouse, of Glasgow, suddenly hit newspapers last week as being charged with illegally killing a golden eagle. While the Helena Independent and the Billings Gazette printed details from the affidavit, they failed to mention that the incident actually occurred Feb. 23, 2013. Another group of artists is showing off its talents in April at Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery. Montana’s unemployment rate continued its decline in February, down 0.1 of a percentage point from January to 4.3 percent. The U.S. unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 5.5 percent. Valley County's employment rate remains strong. The county's unemployment rate in February was 3.8 percent. Dear Editor: I recently had the privilege of attending the junior prom at Glasgow High School. My son, Jacob, was asked to escort a young lady named Tavia to the prom. He had just had knee surgery and couldn't put any weight on his knee. He had to walk with a walker or roll in a wheelchair. The students at the prom were helpful, caring and compassionate. A Montana Senate panel put about $50 million into the state budget bill last week, after Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock said the budget crafted by House Republicans was unacceptable. The panel added about $25 million in amendments to House Bill 2, the $4 billion state general fund budget for the next two years. Ret. Major Jerry Dean Fouts, 78, of Nixa, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born April 19, 1936, the son of the late Leonard and Stella (Lewellen) Fouts. Six weeks after his birth, his mother passed away and he resided with his aunt and uncle. Glasgow coaching great John LaBonty and four others will be inducted this summer into the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Among the others is Paul Barta, who coached five years at GHS in the 1980s. LaBonty was a head mentor for 28 of his 36 years coaching, the last 34 years at Glasgow. A 36-year MCA member, LaBonty has served in a variety of sports and positions, but it is in track and field and volleyball where he has created a legacy. Warmer temperatures and melted ice mean the annual walleye spawning operation on Fort Peck Reservoir is beginning early this year and will soon be in full swing. Volunteers are always welcome, and needed, for the success of this operation.
