On April 28, members of the Northeast Montana Fair Board and volunteers from the community took their positions at downtown intersections to accept donations. Over $6,200 was raised. The boot drive was one method of fundraising approved by the fair board to help pay for this year's carnival. This week, Valley County Commissioners approved the purchase of four used Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA) for the fire department. The SCBA’s to be purchased are certified and have a seven-year life span. The equipment will cost $1,600. The commissioners also committed $3,000 to the Valley County Fair Board. The Valley County Health Department received the Healthy People 2020 award for meeting the national goal of 80 percent coverage of immunizations in Valley County. Last month, Glasgow's Valley View Home brought in Judy Melin of Livingston to act as interim director until Amy Ryan, the current director of operations, can obtain her license as a health administrator. Today I visited Pass Creek School, a one-room schoolhouse north of Bozeman with eight kids. We talked about Montana artists and did an art project together. Most of them drew pictures of horses, or of moving cows, or their 4-H pigs. They were smart and polite and well-spoken. For work, I visit all kinds of schools. Marvin Lee Gardner passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the age of 76 in Glasgow, Mont. He requested that cremation take place and no service be held. He was born in Scobey, Mont., on Dec. 27, 1940, to Henry and Glenda (Fossum) Gardner. He went to school in Glasgow, graduating in 1959. Following a home game against Glendive April 25, the Lady Scotties traveled to Great Falls for a two-day tournament April 28 and 29.
