The Bureau of Land Management North Central Montana District Manager Mark Albers, spoke to the Courier about American Prairie’s grazing. As has been reported in previous editions, the American Prairie Foundation Inc. is attempting to remove interior fencing on their BLM leased lands, fortify the external fencing with an electric wire, and they are applying to graze bison year-round. Valley View Home administrator Wes Thompson sat down with the Courier to provide an update on the state of Valley View Home. Topics discussed included the home’s recruiting efforts for residents and employees, the state of the facility and major improvement projects and the staff’s efforts to prepare for their impending state survey. As the weather gets warmer and travel starts to increase, drivers will begin to notice a new feature along roadways throughout eastern Montana. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) announced they will be installing centerline rumble strips along key segments in an effort to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes. The VFW Post #3107 Auxiliary presented Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mitch Willett a $200 donation to the Montana Hope Project on April 20. Every year the auxiliary finds causes to donate to when they have extra funds. Dear Editor, I am encouraging everyone to thoroughly read the American Prairie Reserve (APR) website as well as its sister organization, the Friends of the American Serengeti (FoAS) website, an independent, tax-privileged organization in Germany that was formed to help provide funding for the APR. These two organizations have raised millions of dollars to buy land in Fergus, Petroleum, Phillips and Valley counties in Montana. Their next goal is to take down all of the fences on the BLM land they have leases on and have bison graze on the land...

I had the opportunity this past weekend to view the GHS Middle School play Into the Woods. What a magnificent group of students, who put on a show four times (including the Golden Ticket Show) during the weekend and was able to memorize every word and every movement for all who attended. Every single one of these middle schoolers, stage crew included, had to put in a huge amount of hard work in order to make the show successful for each production. I attended the Doo-Wop Dance at Prairie Ridge on April 20. This was an outstanding two hours of entertainment. The performers and staff of Prairie Ridge are to be commended. Great Job. Charlotte (Waber) Claypool, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 89, passed away peacefully into her Heavenly Father's loving arms on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Dolores L. Wentland, age 71, of Glasgow, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018, in Billings, Mont. Mildred "Millie" (Ecklund) Larson, 94, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, of natural causes at Eagle Cliff Manor, in Billings, Mont. A memorial service will take place June 2018, in Scobey, Mont. It's been a tough spring sports season for the Scottie track and field team. With weather and track conditions impacting most of Montana there have been limited opportunities to get consistent practices, and even fewer opportunities to compete. On April 21, the team was on the road to Lambert for the Sidney Invitational. The meet was held in Lambert due to serious issues with the track complex in Sidney. The Nashua Porcupines hosted their track and field invitational at Scottie Field in Glasgow April 20. With several area schools in attendance and nearly perfect weather, the meet was a success. Nashua's Taylor Laumeyer and Frazer's Jayson Jackson both swept their events with three first-place finishes.
