Based upon the latest models at press time, the National Weather Service in Glasgow is projecting that flooding is almost imminent for the Milk River in Glasgow; it's just a matter of when. After reviewing 2016 FBI crime report statistics and population data, SafeWise, a safety and security system reviewer company, recently identified Glasgow as the fourth safest city in Montana. In the report, Glasgow, with a population of 3,442 at the time of the study, experienced 1.74 violent crimes while 6.68 property crimes occurred per 1,000 people. Malta resident Susan Green knows first hand what it is like to lose a baby early on. She lost one of her twins in utero over 17 years ago. She said she had also known people and friends who had experienced the loss of a newborn or young infant. Jeremy Bartel, son of Larry and Linda Bartel of Glasgow, was recently promoted to the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army on March 2 in Stuttgart, Germany. Bartel graduated from Glasgow High School in 1993 and has had an extensive military background. In recent news, educators in Oklahoma, West Virginia and Kentucky organized and implemented walk-outs in their states in an effort to secure more funding for education. In a press release sent out last week, Superintendent of Glasgow Public Schools Bob Connors sought to explain the district’s proposed general fund levy. The proposed levy will be voted on at the May 8, annual school election. According to Connors, the district will be asking for a levy increase of 8.12 mills. This proposal will bring the new total school levy assessment to 85.10 mills up from 76.98 mills the previous years. My memories are a jumble today. My first thought was hunting Easter eggs in the snow. Chad J. Smith, 46, of Glasgow, Mont., passed at his home in late March. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 5, at Bell Mortuary with Pastor Bonnie Novak officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Nashua Cemetery. He was born July 17, 1971, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Pete Smith and Cherlyen McLaurin. Larry Gordon DuBeau, 80, passed away of natural causes at his home in Park Grove, Mont., Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born Jan. 10, 1938, to Hazel (Cornwell) and William "Eddie" DuBeau in Glasgow. He was the third of five children and the only one without a nickname. He attended elementary school in Fort Peck and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1956. Once again, Northeast Montana's unpredictable, yet typical, weather has slowed the start of the spring sports season. Severe weather and heavy snowfall has been a factor in the postponement and cancellation of several spring events. Shelby's golf invitational scheduled for March 23 and the Scottie Softball Red and White Game scheduled for March 27 were both cancelled due to inclement weather.
