The Valley County Health Department announced on March 29 that the county is down to five active cases of COVID-19. A mere three new cases have been recorded since the previous update from the department on March 22. Two of those cases were in the 30-39 age range, one male and one female, and one male in the 60-69 bracket. To date, Valley County has registered 874 total coronavirus cases. The Valley County Conservation District has been trying to alert their constituents, and others, about how the federal government is succeeding in taking the vested water rights away from the Federal Grazing District allotment holders without any just compensation. As we navigate out of the pandemic, Fort Peck Summer Theatre is overjoyed that the 2021 Performing Arts Camp is on track to continue as scheduled. Jacob Etchart grew up spending summers at Fort Peck Lake with much of his time spent around the Fort Peck Theatre where his family was actively involved as volunteers. He loved watching his sisters Alexa and Christen and many friends perform on the Fort Peck stage. Jake played the role of The Real Professor Plum in Fort Peck’s production of CLUE. F.J. Mersen was born on July 31, 1928 in Glasgow, Mont. to Frank Mersen Sr. and Louise Opheim Mersen, to the delight of his sister, Betty. F.J. passed away on March 27, 2021, leaving this world as sharp as a tack and remembering just about every car he sold. F.J. attended school in Glasgow through high school. It’s definitely a Montana-style spring going on: spits of rain one day, flurries of snow the next. Between the two, we measured .08” of moisture last week, and every bit counts. The snow Friday evening measured about 3” of wet fluff. It was only 25° Saturday morning, with a stiff breeze, so I didn’t attempt making a snowman. The Glasgow Scottie golf team traveled across the Hi-Line to Shelby late last week to kick off their 2021 season. As is often the case with Spring Sports in Montana, the Scotties ran into some inclement weather. "It was a super cold day," Coach Todd Truscott said of Friday, which saw rain and snow.
