A myriad of animals made a special appearance at Irle Elementary and the Children's Museum in Glasgow on March 22. Executive Director Jeff Ewelt from Zoo Montana, Billings, brought cockroaches, a bull snake, an opossum, a laughing kookaburra bird and a great horned owl from the zoo, providing much entertainment to area children and parents. On March 22, Valley County Commissioners agreed upon the hiring of Zach Lypszyc as Assistant County Attorney. Lypszyc has interned with the Valley County Attorney for the last two years. He will graduate this summer and is expected to pass the bar before taking the position in September. March 24 was the 52nd Annual Schmeckfest in Lustre, which saw a crowd estimated at around 750 people in a grand show of support for the Lustre Christian High School fundraiser. Known as the German Festival of Tasting, the event featured a smorgasbord of German fares ranging from wursts and kraut to fruit pockets and peppernuts. A search warrant executed March 24 by the Tri-Agency Task Force and Valley County Sheriff's Department in St. Marie led to several criminal charges and an ongoing investigation. The search of a residence located at 389 C Hickory Street turned up multiple items of evidence, which were seized from the premises and resulted in drug-related charges. Local Glasgow resident, Lacie Brown had a vision to raise funds for domestic violence services in Valley County, and with the assistance of her two friends, Jenny McCabe and Kim Redstone, that vision is becoming a reality. Beginning Monday, April 3, The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Glasgow will be doing upgrades to the weather radar. The upgrades are expected to last approximately three days, during which time the radar will be down. If a threat of significant weather presents itself during the lead up of the outage, the upgrades will be postponed to ensure no significant weather events are missed. Jennifer "Jenny" Louise Reinhardt, age 67, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Lilly A. (Toavs) Baker, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born Feb. 17, 1923, to AF and Marie Toavs in Wolf Point, Mont. She married Lloyd L. David Lynn Arneson fell asleep in death on Friday, March 17, 2017. Up to his death and in his final weeks, he was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Sister Dorothy Elizabeth Zimmer, age 98, a Sister of Providence for 73 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, Wash. She was born June 7, 1918, to Peter and Elizabeth (Niehoff) Zimmer in Glentana, Mont., the second oldest of six children. She entered the Sisters of Providence in February 1943 at Mount St. Vincent in Seattle and in August 1943, she became a novice. Walter Arthur Adler Jr., age 62, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Friday, March 3, 2017. He drowned while trying to retrieve a boat that had drifted away from a boat ramp off of Vaughn Road near the US 412 bridge in Arkansas. He was born Nov. 22, 1954, in Loveland, Colo., to Barbara and Walter Adler Sr. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid Denver Broncos fan. The Glasgow Highlanders traveled to Billings March 25 and 26 for the Montana Open. The club boasted the tenth-largest team at the event with 30 wrestlers competing.
