The Fort Peck Fine Arts Council hosted the 18th Annual Chinese Auction on March 16 in the Cottonwood Inn and brought out attendees' competitive spirit, hoping to win one of the many prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. After announcing a proposal to cut hours at the Opheim, Scobey, Raymond and Morgan ports of entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has decided to make the changes effective April 14. Town halls have been scheduled to discuss the new hours with the Opheim Town Hall meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, at 5 p.m., at the Glasgow Senior Citizens Center, 328 4th Street South, Glasgow. Shopko announced Monday, March 18, that they will be closing all remaining stores. The move comes after Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings failed to restructure the company’s debt and save the retailer’s remaining locations across the north-central midwestern United States. Staff at the Glasgow store confirmed that they had been informed of the closure Monday morning. The Valley County Sheriff’s Office and the Glasgow Police Department have pooled resources to upgrade their electronic management systems. The upgrade will help the agencies go mobile, which, according to Sheriff Tom Boyer, will put the deputy offices in the streets and out among the residents of Valley County. Valley County Sheriff Tom Boyer has appointed a five-year veteran of the Valley County Sheriff's Office to serve as Undersheriff. Chris Richter assumed the position after a lengthy search that involved the screening of eight candidates from around the country. This week marked the first full week of committee hearings after the transmittal break. For the remainder of the legislative session the brunt of our work will focus on making sure bills we support continue to make it through the process. The exception to this rule is any bill which is considered a revenue bill. Any legislation with money attached to it has a later transmittal deadline of approximately April 1. On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Milton Barstad decided to quit fighting Alzheimer's disease. After struggling on his admittance to FMDH, he settled down for a relaxing day of family visitations and then just drifted off peacefully. Milton Ingvar Barstad, age 78, was born in Glasgow, Mont., at FMDH on April 16, 1940, to Ingvar Barstad and Myrtle (Paulson) Barstad. The Glasgow Highlanders are almost to the end of their competitive season, with just a few events left before the Montana Open in Billings, March 30 and 31. While the team had wrestlers compete in three separate events this past weekend, the bulk of the team went to Circle for their invitational on March 16. The 21st-Annual Jeff Jurgens Memorial Tournament brought a lot of ballers to town March 16 and 17. More than 75 teams were registered for the event, which translates into hundreds of athletes looking to win a coveted JJMT hoodie.
