Twenty-one teams turned out for the 22nd Open Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 13. The weather was just what we ordered for the teams coming out to support a great cause and great community. Our Premier Sponsors, First Community Bank and Independence Bank made this day a huge success. The FMDH Foundation’s “Tree of Life” has become an annual holiday tradition in our community. The Tree was lit on Nov. 28, and will remain on until New Years. During this time we invite you to support the FMDH Foundation while remembering loved ones, friends, and special events with a tax deductible donation. Many people send holiday wishes and congratulations as well as memorials for those dear to them that have been lost. The names of loved ones and events are placed on recognition cards and hung as a loving tribute on the Tree of Life....
The FMDH Foundation Board of Directors would like to announce that they have decided to cancel this year’s 2020 golf tournament. For the past 21 years, the FMDH Foundation has held the Foundation’s Open Golf Tournament as its major annual fundraising event. So, to say this was not an easy decision is an understatement. It was a full house at the FMDH Foundation's annual event, held Nov. 2, at the Cottonwood Inn. The FMDH Foundation recently gifted Glasgow High School a new Game Ready Machine, a device that helps student athletes with joint injuries, such as those that affect their ankle, knee or shoulder, as well as larger muscles, like hamstrings. Recently, you may have read the article about Tim Newton’s gift to the Francis Mahon Deaconess Hospital foundation. When asked if I could write about it, Newton said “if this donation can inspire more donations to the Foundation then it’s all worth it.” I had another wonderful surprise this week, as a donor stopped in to visit with me. Tim Newton recently made a gift of $10,000 to the FMDH Foundation in memory of his wife, Karen Newton. This was a very generous surprise and will be added to the endowment account, where only the dividends and interest will be spent to further provide Valley County with the best medical equipment possible.
