Class C Tracksters Compete at State Meet

Heidi Johnson / For the Courier

Jayson Jackson winds up for his throw in the discus at the state C meet in Great Falls.

The State Class C track meet was held in Great Falls May 25 and 26. Several athletes from our small-but-mighty area competed and put up some impressive performances. The Frazer Bearcubs and the Hinsdale Raiders were well-represented in numbers and each had an athlete achieve podium placement. The Nashua Porcupines boasted just one competitor, Taylor Laumeyer, who earned a pair of bronze medals in her events.

For the Bearcubs, senior Jayson Jackson earned bronze in the shot put with his throw of 46-04.75, while Hinsdale's freshman Kaitlyn McColly made it to the podium with her sixth-place finish in the 300m hurdles. She also set a personal best time of 48.55 in the event.

McColly was unable to qualify for the 100m hurdles, placing 19th in the preliminaries with a time of 21.45. She also competed in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Loden Idler and Mickayla Johnson also competed in Great Falls for the Raiders, Idler in the long jump and Johnson in the shot put.

With Jackson competing in the throws for Frazer, the three other athletes that made the trip covered the running events. Wyatt Miller set personal best times in the 800m and the 1600m, but was just a few places shy of individual hardware, placing eighth in both races. Zander Ackerman, a freshman for the Bearcubs, ran a solid 3200m run, placing 15th with his time of 11:16.41. Finally, senior Sierra Summers represented the Lady Bearcubs in three races: the 800m, 1600m and 3200m.

Also notable from around our area, Trace Simonson of Whitewater snagged a gold medal in the discus with his throw of 145-08.
