Doris H. Mogan

Doris H. (Rogers) Mogan, age 91, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Billings and Hinsdale, Mont., passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018. She was the consummate Christian, friend, volunteer, teacher and mother.

It is Doris' request that there be no service. Inurnment will occur at a later date.

She was born Nov. 3, 1926, at Barr, Mont., to Charles and Florence Rogers. She and her twin sister, Dorothea, joined an older sister, Betty. Their family was joined by an additional sister, Barbara, two years later. Doris tragically lost her mother at age 5 due to pernicious anemia. After she lost her mother, the Rutters of Hinsdale became her family.

She graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1945, as valedictorian of her class. After high school, she worked in California for the War Department as secretary to the personnel manager. She then attended St. Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. Upon her return to Montana, she taught at the Snake Creek School north of Hinsdale.

She married Alex B. Mogan in 1950 in Great Falls, Mont. He was a rancher and together they spent over 40 years in Hinsdale. They moved to Billings in 1989. She moved to Tucson to be near her son in June of 2017.

She was a member of the Hinsdale Lutheran Church for many years and a member of the First English Church in Billings.

Her accomplishments were many, including being a teacher in Hinsdale and Billings, Girl Scouts, FFA, Valley County Cowbells, Eastern Star, and a lifelong member of Chapter U of P.E.O. She was also a regular volunteer at St. John's Nursing Home in Billings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of over 50 years, Alex; one daughter, Laura Philemonof; one granddaughter, Kimberly Bayly; and one sister, Dorothea Buckingham.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara Seal, and three of her four children, Alexander B. Mogan, Paul G. Mogan and his wife, Bobbi, and David C. Mogan; her granddaughter, Kristin Evans and her husband, Bobby; and two great-granddaughters, Isabella Evans and Mariah Powell.

She wished to be remembered as one who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.
