Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Glasgow's March Madness is Upon Us

JJMT Begins Friday

The 20th Annual Jeff Jurgens Memorial Basketball Tournament kicks off in Glasgow this weekend, beginning on Friday, March 16 and going through Sunday, March 18.

The tournament, which is geared towards boys and girls fourth grade through 10th grade, boasts nearly 85 teams this year.

While the tournament will consist of some Friday night games, the bulk of the tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday with games scheduled in several gyms all day.

The venues of the games are as follows: fourth and fifth grades will play at the Glasgow High School, sixth grade will compete at the Glasgow Middle School, seventh-grade games will be held at the Glasgow Evangelical Church, eighth-graders will play at St. Raphael’s Church, and high-school games will held at the Glasgow Civic Center.

Admission is $5 for Friday and Saturday together, $5 for Sunday, and is good for entry into all the gyms.

Glasgow is well-represented in the tournament, with a team in every division except the 9/10 girls. The Scotties will field two teams in boys’ fourth and eighth grades.

Other competitors will travel from as far as Box Elder, Regina, Sask., Williston, N.D. and Brockway.

With nearly 2,000 people descending upon Glasgow for the weekend, JJMT brings enormous benefit to the local economy.

Players on the winning team of each division will receive a champion hoodie, a coveted prize among budding hoop players around eastern Montana and across the border.

JJMT was started in 1999 in memory of Jeff Jurgens. Today, it is the Scottie Booster Club’s biggest fundraising event, made possible with support from local businesses and a grant from Glasgow TBID.

Proceeds from the tournament are used to provide scholarships for Valley County students, as well as Glasgow High School’s extra-curricular activities.
