Steven DeYoung

Steven DeYoung, age 49, passed away unexpectedly at his residence by Tiger Butte, near Glasgow, Mont., on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1968, in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Robert and Shirley (Dykema) DeYoung. His family moved to Bozeman where he received his education and graduated from Bozeman High School in 1987. He always had a passion for engines and motorsports, including dirt bikes and snowmobiles.

He met his future wife, Diana Lynn Guttenberg, through a mutual friend in Bozeman in 1992. After a few low-key drive bys and a year and a half of friendship, he and Diana began dating after a stealthy camping trip. They were married on the shores of Fort Peck Lake on Sept. 19, 1998.

He loved his dogs, being outdoors, fishing and was an accomplished marksman. He was involved in competitive shooting and won quite a few awards. He also raced in motocross with his friends and took home trophies and prize money from races.

He was a gear head and enjoyed riding with his awesome friends. They spent a lot of time riding both bikes and sleds in the mountains of Montana. He was an expert technician and a master mechanic and held certificates of training from mechanical trade schools on many types of vehicles, including the certificate of Harley-Davidson PhD.

He eventually found his home working for Thompson & Sons in Glasgow as a diesel mechanic under their guidance. He was well respected not only for his skill, but also for his hard work ethic. He often worked late or on weekends to get a vehicle back on the road for the owners. He truly "Rode for the Brand."

Survivors include his wife, Diana DeYoung; his parents; his in-laws; one sister, Amy; and many close friends. He is also survived by his and Diana's dogs, Goose, Wolfie, Bella and Odessa, who he loved dearly.

His visitation was held on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5-7 p.m. and funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m., all at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. After the funeral, a reception was held at the Cottonwood Inn.
