Vietnam Vets Honored at Memorial Day Service

Approximately 25 Vietnam-era veterans were honored with pins at the VFW and American Legion's Memorial Day ceremony May 29. Servicemen with dates of service ranging from Feb. 1961 to May 1975 were eligible for the commemoration.

The event, held at the Civic Center, took place in a gymnasium with few empty seats. So few, in fact, that the Legion's Joe Yoeman guessed it was one of the highest turnouts in several years. The Glasgow High School band and EQ Singers provided music, with the band's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" drawing complimentary remarks from attendees.

GHS students provided the main address, which focused on a recent trip to visit memorials in Washington, D.C. Jason Myers provided the invocation and benediction. A VFW honor guard presented and retired the colors. Leonard Swenson and Brad Persinger played echoing taps to conclude the ceremony.

American Legion Post 41 asked to express their gratitude to the GHS speakers and band.
