Marlene Olson

On Friday, May 5, 2017, Marlene Rose (Barnes) Olson departed her earthly life with family by her side.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1502 Shirley Road. A reception will follow the Mass in the fellowship hall of the church. 

Marlene Rose Barnes was born on Jan. 29, 1937, in Glasgow, Mont. Her parents were Burr and Mammie Barnes. She was raised on a farm in Wyota, and attended school in Nashua. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Charles Olson, in April 1956. They built their own home in Nashua and raised four children: Terry, Mike, Pam and Gayna. Shortly after her husband passed away in 1996, she moved to Helena to be closer to her children.

She enjoyed camping with her family and fishing with her husband. She was an accomplished baker and cook and enjoyed caring for her lawn and flowers. She worked as a cashier at Gordon's Foods in Glasgow for many years, and was most recently employed by Walmart, in Helena, until health complications forced her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; parents, Burr and Mammie; three sisters, Donna Branch, Donnabelle Barnes and Neva Cook; five brothers, Delorne Barnes, Oran Barnes, Laurel Barnes, Max Barnes and Gail Barnes.

She is survived by two sisters, Betty O'Tremba and Audrey Kjensrud; two sisters-in-law, Karyl Barnes and Pat Barnes; four children, Terry Olson and his wife, Leslie, Mike Olson and his wife,Terri, Pam Hart and her husband, Brian and Gayna Miros and her husband, Rob; seven grandchildren, Challen Behan and her husband, Matt, Ashley Olson, Eric Olson, Tyler Hart, Collin Hart, Kurtis Miros, Becky Lang and her husband, Dylan; and four great-grandchildren, Parker Gillman, Jack Schafer, Ella Behan and Wesley Behan.

Memorials in Marlene's name may be sent to the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1502 Shirley Road, Helena, MT 59602.
