Bits and Pieces

Saturday evening, I received a very pleasant suprise. A lovely bouquet of flowers was delivered to me. I have no idea who sent them. But whoever did, if you are reading this, thank you very, very much for your thoughtful gift. It has already brought me many smiles and most certainly brightened my days.

On Sunday morning, I awoke to sunshine and the sweet song of birds singing. Though there is still snow on the ground, it even had a bright sparkle to it. To make the day even better, there was a potluck dinner following Mass. And after the dinner, one of my granddaughters and a grandson brought my dishes home. My granddaughter even cleaned up the dishes and put them away. I am truly blessed.

Hearing the birds singing, the thought crossed my mind that soon I hope to be able to plant my veggie garden and flowers. Before long new life will appear in the grass and leaves budding out on the trees.

A great-niece in Iowa told of being the only one at her place of work when an elderly woman came in and asked if she worked there. Upon replying she did, the woman asked her if she ever loaned out $5 to someone. My great-niece handed her $5. She said in her posting on Facebook, “The woman asked for a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote down March 9, telling my niece that was the day she would pay her back. I told her it was not a big deal I was not worried about it. She was very thankful and worried that I understood she would be back to pay me. My point is to me that $5 is not a big deal but to her it meant a lot. Remember, people, it’s the little things in life that might be nothing to us but could be everything to someone else.” It takes a good and kind heart to recognize that.

I attended the Nashua/Opheim Rivals game that took place the first day of the District 3C tournament. Watching this first year team, I thought how great it was the students of two schools, who had been opponents for many years, could come together in order to have the opportunity to play basketball.

And at half time of that game I was impressed with the performance of the Nashua Elementary Rock Stars. They were wonderful. And congratulations goes to all who helped these young people learn and perform their routine.

In spite of all the reports of protests, riots, divisiviness, racisim, and intolerance we are bombarded with, there is still far more good in our world than bad.
