Scotties Split Games vs. Sidney, North Country

The Sidney Eagles came from behind to defeat the Scotties in a home game held at Scottie Gymnasium Jan. 19.

Although there was only a one-bucket margin in favor of the Eagles at the end of the first quarter, the Scotties overcame that deficit and pulled ahead of the class A opponent, allowing only six points from the field in the second quarter.

Senior starter Brayden Ross dominated the second quarter, scoring 10 of 18 points for the Scotties and giving Glasgow a nine-point lead at the half.

Defensively, the first half was relatively tame with just 10 total fouls handed out by the officials.

When the boys returned to the hardwood for the second half, however, there was a different energy to the game. As the Eagles picked up steam offensively, the Scotties were forced to step up their defense.

With two of the Scotties' heavy hitters in foul trouble, the Eagles capitalized offensively with a six-bucket scoring streak late in the fourth quarter to take the lead and the win.

Although Ross stood out as a key player for the Scotties, the Eagles had more balanced scoring with four players finishing with double digits.

In their second game of the week on Jan. 21, the Scotties matched up against the North Country Mavericks in another home game.

Both teams displayed clean, consistent work in the game, with several players contributing offensively and defensively.

The turning point may have come early with the loss of senior Maverick Cache Younkin, who left the game with an injury and never made it back on the court. Although they have plenty of talent, the loss of one of their key players appeared to rattle North Country and they scored just four points in the second quarter.

Going into halftime, the Scotties were ahead 20-12. The Mavericks bounced back after returning to the hardwood, scoring 14 points to Glasgow's 13, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit. The Scotties continued to maintain control into the fourth quarter, led by sophomore Cade Myrick who scored more than half of his points in the final eight minutes.

The Scotties brought it all together as a team, and it showed. Across the board, each player played a role in the win with rebounds, assists and steals. In addition, Glasgow finished the game with just seven turnovers.

The Scotties will travel to Glendive Thursday, Jan. 26 and will be in Poplar on Saturday, Jan 28. The Mavericks will play in Frazer on Friday, Jan. 27, then will be in Nashua the following night to play the Porcupines.
