Scottie Girls Fall to Scobey, Tame Wild Cats

The Glasgow Scottie boys and girls basketball teams faced Scobey on Jan. 5 and Harlem on Jan. 7. The Spartans got the best of the Scotties in both games, while Glasgow defeated Harlem in both games.

Scobey 35, Glasgow 33 (Girls)

Following the boys game on Jan. 6, the Lady Scotties faced the Lady Spartans in a non-conference game at Scottie Gymnasium.

Starting for the Scotties were Tyra Johnson, Leinie Hughes, Jordan Kulczyk, Khloe Krumwiede and Lexi Nixdorf.

Also seeing some time on the floor were Demi Aune, Ashtyn Myrick and Kaylee King, with just about every player contributing offensively.

Scobey came to play and squeaked past Glasgow in the end, earning the two-point win.

The Lady Scotties struggled in the field with only 12 of 34 shots completed, and put up a mediocre 54 percent at the charity stripe.

Glasgow played heavy defense against the Scobey girls, most notably against an animated Kortney Nelson, who earned most of her 12 points at the line, but struggled offensively. By the fourth quarter, the Lady Scotties were gassed and only scored three points to Scobey's 9.

Leading the way for the Scotties was Hughes who earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Glasgow 46, Harlem 26 (Girls)

The girls traveled to Harlem on Jan. 7 to take on the Lady Wild Cats in their second conference match-up of the season.

The Scotties outscored Harlem in each quarter of the game and defeated the Lady Wild Cats by 20 points. Although Glasgow played hard and earned the win, it was another mediocre showing in the field (36.5 percent) and at the line (31.8 percent.)

Hughes, who scored more than half of her points in the first quarter of the contest, achieved another double-double for the week with 15 points and 15 rebounds in the game.

Although Hughes was the top scorer and the only Lady Scottie to finish in the double digits, several of the girls contributed to the final score, pulling it all together for the win.

Nixdorf defended her way to the bench, fouling out late in the game, with Hughes also pushing her luck with four total infractions in the contest.

The win against the Lady Cats brought the Lady Scotties' conference record to 1-1. They face some tough competition this week with games against Wolf Point (1-1) on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Malta (2-1) on Friday, Jan. 14.
