Lady Scotties Earn Consolation in Dickinson

The past week was busy for the GHS volleyball team as they traveled to Sidney Sept. 20 to take on the class A Eagles. In a very competitive four-set match, Glasgow came out on fire, stunning the Eagles with aggressive serving and a wicked-fast offense that kept their block from forming a wall strong enough to stop the Scotties.

In quick fashion, Glasgow came out on top 25-14. Game two was much closer as the Eagles found their stride and pushed back, costing Glasgow the set 25-22. The Lady Scotties dropped the final two games to the Lady Eagles 25-16 and 25-18. The Scotties were challenged by some fine serving and a faster offense executed by a bigger and stronger Sidney team.

Barring any major breakdowns in passing, our girls have the capacity to play with anyone they've met so far this season, so the rematch scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 20 is one the Scotties eagerly look forward to.

The Dickinson tournament offered a whole host of competition for Glasgow, beginning with Miles City, Mandan and Heart River, N.D. All three pool teams were well-trained and exciting to play against. The highlight of pool play was a remarkable comeback to tie the game at 24-24 with Mandan and nearly squeak out a win. Great performances from the entire team continue to inspire us.

Still though, with a record of 0-3, the Scotties once again found themselves in the bronze tournament, playing at Trinity HS. An unfortunate early loss to Dickinson 2 put Glasgow in the consolation portion of the tournament, but they never looked back. Malta fell to the Scotties 25-12, 25-21 and then Killdeer fell 25-20, 25-13. Passing was spot-on and the offense was varied and relentless, with every girl on the team contributing.

After two full days of volleyball, GHS emerged as the consolation champions. The C and JV squads headed to Hinsdale Sept. 27, and on Thursday, Sept. 29, we load the busses for a trip to Wolf Point and the start of the second half of conference play.
