Commending Community

I am going to deviate a little this week to reminisce about class reunions. Do you remember the first school reunion you attended? For most that was the 10th year after graduation. Sometimes those first reunions make a memory that helps get us all excited about the next big reunion, or those memories may make us decide never to take in another reunion. The Opheim All-School Reunion was held this past week.

All-school reunions are so much more fun that a “class” reunion. I do realize that I am talking about a small school and very small classes, so that is probably the reason. There are several small schools around us having all school reunions within the next week or so. If you haven’t had the experience of walking in the halls of your school, only to run into someone of an older generation and have them tell you that you must be John or Jane Doe, as you look just like your parent, you are missing the real concept of reunions.

I want to use my article this week to commend all of those residents of the Opheim area that worked so hard to put everything together, working around the sporadic weather and having everything go so well. The town looked so great. I just cannot imagine those of us in our bigger communities coming out with our mowers and weed eaters, making the area look so great. Of course the abundant moisture provided to us by our Good Lord has really helped make the majority of our great state look green and lovely.

Not only did we have lovely surroundings and great meals, but the entertainment for the Saturday evening banquet was really special, beginning with prayer and ending with a great slide show reminding us of those that have served our country. Just a reminder that being patriotic is still COOL.

May you be privileged to attend a community reunion, reminisce about the “Good Old Days,” get pointers from the young generation on the use of your new Tech gadget, and savor all of the memories.

Thanks to all who worked so hard.
