Gordon Lee Brown

Gordon Lee Brown, age 77, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home in Glasgow, Mont.

Services will be held at the Bell Mortuary in Glasgow on Saturday, June 4, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Tom Fauth officiating. A gathering and lunch will be held at the VFW in Glasgow immediately following the service.

He was born in Glasgow on Sept. 16, 1938, to Harold and Virginia (Beadle) Brown. He was a Glasgow Scottie alumni of the class of 1956.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 and served until 1959 on the USS Midway as a parachute packer. He boxed in the Navy and was the 1957 Welter Weight Champion and received many trophies. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he returned to Glasgow and worked in the auto parts business and other miscellaneous jobs, including Newton Motors, where he became life-long friends with Terry Newton.

In June of 1963, he married the absolute love of his life, Dolores Albert, in Glasgow. In 1973 he went to work for the United States Postal Service in Glasgow, retiring from there in 1999.

He also had a passion for muscle cars and enjoyed drag racing, setting a national speed record for his class in April of 1965 at Lions Drag Strip in California. He also loved working on cars and restoring them.

He loved camping with his family and the Thorn family. He also had a deep love for the time he spent at the cabin on Nelson Reservoir. He loved to read and he had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs and granddogs. He cherished his family and friends. He loved working in his yard, and he had a talent for working on chainsaws and sharpening chains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Virginia (Beadle) Brown Svingen; and his beautiful granddaughter, Alison Kay Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores, of Valley View Home in Glasgow; a son, Gordon L. Brown II and his wife, Brigitte, of Billings; two daughters, Samantha Floyd and her husband, Bruce, of Opheim, and Cassi Ruiz and her husband, Joe, of Lancaster, Pa.; grandchildren Jay Brown, Sophia Ruiz, Joseph Ruiz, Nolan Ruiz and Sarah Fischer; three brothers, Jerry Brown and his wife, Judy, of Rowlett, Texas, Robert Svingen and Jon Svingen of Glasgow; and his best friend and classmate, Paul Monson. He also has many nieces, nephews and cousins.
