Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Dylan Tressler Shanks

On Dec. 23, 1985, Jan and Frank Shanks received an early Christmas gift with the arrival of Dylan Tressler Shanks. He spent his early childhood years in Glasgow, and was an active and talented athlete in multiple sports (excelling in baseball!). His family eventually moved to Columbus, where he graduated from high school. During his adolescence and high school years, his athletic focus changed from traditional sports to developing a true appreciation and enjoyment of the solace provided while spending time in nature.

Snowboarding became a passion that he continued to enjoy at every opportunity, especially in the backcountry. Hiking, camping, fishing and spending time on the water were cherished times for him.

He became intrigued with the home brewing process of beer and this interest became a career path that engaged his amazing creativity and allowed him to experience incredible personal success in the artisan brewing world, working as a lead brewer for Red Lodge Ales and most recently at Wildlife Brewing in Victor, Idaho. His outgoing personality and crazy sense of humor endeared him to countless friends of all ages throughout Montana and his new Idaho home.

On Monday, April 25, 2016, a new star appeared in the early morning sky as Dylan, age 30, left his earthly home to watch over the family and friends that love him dearly.

He joins his departed loved ones, grandparents Frank Shanks Sr. and Byron and Lois Tressler.

He leaves behind his loving parents, Jan and Fran Shanks of Red Lodge; two brothers, Paige Shanks and his wife, Rebecca, of Bozeman, and Mason Shanks and (Jami Lindgren) of Billings; a nephew, Porter Shanks of Bozeman; his grandmother, Gloria Shanks Glasgow; an uncle, Leo Shanks and his wife, Lori, of Roundup; aunts, Melody Lind and her husband, Jim, of Polson, Jacquie Tressler Budde and her husband, Michael, of Bozeman, Jill Tressler of Bozeman; numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins; and last but not least, his always faithful canine companion, Sesi.

A Celebration of Dylan's life was held at Red Lodge Ales in Red Lodge on Saturday, May 7, starting at 2:30 p.m.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at http://www.dahlcares.com.
