Scottie Tracksters Compete in Great Falls

Boys And Girls Place Second, Achieve a Plethora of PRs

Glasgow's varsity track and field team got a preview of the divisional meet this weekend when they competed in Great Falls at the Fairfield-Belt Invitational. It was an opportunity to become familiar with the facility and to compete against a different set of athletes.

Glasgow was missing some placers, which left some points up for grabs, and the list of state qualifiers for the Scotties didn't gain any additions. Overall, however, the team performed well with both the boys' and girls' teams taking second.

Benji Phillips led the boys in his events, winning the javelin and the long jump and placing a close second in the 100m dash behind Daylon Jay from Conrad. Phillips also ran a leg on both of the relays.

Trent Herbert placed for points with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, and ran on the fourth-place short relay.

In addition to anchoring the first-place long relay, Cade Myrick placed in two out of three of his events and achieved a PR in both the 800m with a time of 2:11.49 and the javelin with a throw of 134-00.

Distance runners Walker Allen and Merlin McKean grabbed fifth and sixth place in the 3200m run, respectively.

Luke Breigenzer finished both of the hurdle races in fourth place and ran a leg on each of the relays for the boys.

Ethan Etchart also ran a leg on each of the relays in addition to earning fifth place in the 300m hurdles just behind Breigenzer.

Trevor Toavs led the Scotties in the throwing events, finishing second in the discus and fourth in the shot put with a new PR (41-04).

In the pole vault, Kyle Ross and Logan Gunderson finished with vaults of 10-06, with Ross' vault earning him fourth place and a new PR (10-06), and Gunderson taking sixth with his efforts.

Also achieving PRs in their events were: Colin Jamba in the 1600m run (5:37.50), Ellis McKean in the 800m run (2:18.24), and the boys' 4x400 relay with a time of 3:38.49.

Leading for the girls in scoring were Jordan Kulczyk and Alex Simensen. Kulczyk won the long jump and earned second place in the javelin. She was unable to place for points in the 100m dash, but ran a leg of each of the placing relays for the girls.

Simensen beat out 22 other sprinters for a win in the 400m dash. She also placed third in the 100m dash, seventh in the pole vault, tenth in the javelin, and she anchored the fourth-place 4x100 relay.

The distance runners for the girls all had a good day. Morgan Guttenberg placed for points in the 3200m run with a new PR and ran on the long relay, which placed third.

Brooke Westby also ran a leg of the long relay. In her individual events, Westby placed third in the 3200m run and fifth in the 1600m run.

Teagan Fossum achieved PRs in all three of her events and placed fourth in both the 800m run and the 1600m run.

Also placing for points were: Kaylee King in the high jump (third place), Katie Kaiser in the pole vault (third place), and Karissa Liebelt in the long jump (third place). Liebelt also participated in the fourth-place short relay.

Brinlie Nielsen started off both relays with good position as the lead-off runner.

Achieving PRs for the girls were: Hannah Mickelson in the discus (70-05), Kaiser in the pole vault (8-00), Cordelia Nickels in the discus (72-01), Fossum in the javelin (91-06), the 800m run (2:38.01), and the 1600m run (6:01.95), Westby in the 1600m run (6:09.95), and the 3200m run (13:32.58). Guttenberg shaved more than seven seconds off her previous PR in the 3200m run with a new finish time of 13:57.59. Alaina Sallee established PRs in the 100m hurdles (22.75) and the 300m hurdles (55.85).
