Varsity Softball Splits Games

JV Catches 2 Wins, 1 Loss

The Scottie girls softball team faced off against the Glendive Red Devils on March 31, and came away with the 4-1 win.

The winning pitcher was Tyra Johnson with Ziggy Chamberlain behind the plate. Johnson gave up 7 hits, struck out 6 and walked 2. The Scotties had seven hits of their own – two each from Kennedy Schmidt and Tiana Johnson, and one each for Ashtyn Myrick and Rachel Boese. In addition to her two hits, Tiana Johnson recorded an RBI & slugged her first homerun of the season and an RBI.

Tasha Chamberlain also brought in a runner for an RBI.

With Ashtyn Myrick as the winning pitcher, the JV girls were also victorious against the Red Devils, with a 22-10 win.

Following the win in Glendive, the JV girls faced Miles City in a double header on Monday, April 4. Myrick picked up another win in the first game, with the Scotties claiming the 10-0 win. Taking the loss for the second game was pitcher Aurora Chappell. The Scotties fell to their opponent 15-5.

“Ashtyn looked good on the mound for both of the games she pitched,” said head coach Gil johnson.

After a Tuesday afternoon game vs. Glendive, the JV girls will face Sidney on Thursday, 3:30 p.m.

“JV hit the ball well,” said Johnson, “but there were a few fielding and base running mistakes that we will need to continue to work on.”

The varsity girls were back at it again when they faced Lewistown Thursday afternoon. It was a hard fought game as Glasgow scored 7 runs in the top of the first, only to have their opponent answer back in the bottom of the second with 11 runs of their own. The Scotties tied up the game in the fifth inning with two runs, but were unable to pull off the win in overtime, losing 12-13. On the mound was Tyra Johnson, who gave up 11 hits and struck out 5.

Coach Johnson was complimentary of the girls, saying, “The team hit very well with 12 hits and scoring 12 runs."

Contributing those twelve runs were: Khloe Krumwiede, 2; Abbi Kolstad, 2; Kiauna Barstad, 2; Ziggy Chamberalin, 2; Tiana Johnson, 1; Schmidt, 1; Lexi Nixdorf, 1; and Myrick, 1. Krumwiede and Kolstad each knocked one out of the park.

With three errors in the game, Johnson will be working with the girls to clean up the mistakes.

Following a Tuesday afternoon game against Glendive, the varsity girls will face Sidney at home on Thursday afternoon, 5 p.m.

Friday and Saturday, they will be in Lewistown for four games vs. Columbus, Shepherd, Park and Colstrip.
