Valley County Health Says: 'W8 2 TXT'

The Valley County Health Department will be holding its first Red Thumb Reminder Day in the Glasgow High School Cafeteria Thursday, March 17. Health department staff and students will be painting thumbnails red and distributing red thumb bands as a reminder to not text and drive, as well as educating attendees on the subject.

VCHD says sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent at 55mph of driving the length of an entire football field, blind. At the same time, the health department will be completing Public Health Emergency Preparedness training. This involves setting up a Point of Distribution at a designated location, (Glasgow High School) to aid in community disaster relief. There is a large "box" stored at FMDH that can be deployed when needed. The training will include a mock breakout of the "Tika" virus and the distribution of a "vaccine." VCHD encourages you to join them creating awareness of the danger of texting and driving. You can contact the Valley County Health Department at 228-6263 with any questions. VCHD's downtown locaton will be closed on March 17 from 2-6 p.m.
