A Weekend of Hockey: 4 Teams, 12 Games

Five U19 Seniors Recognized on Saturday

This past weekend was busy for the Ice Dawgs. In three days, the U19 girls, the U14 girls, the Squirts and the Peewees played 12 games.

U19

The U19 Lady Ice Dawgs started their weekend off in Williston on Friday with a game against the Wahpeton Blades. Glasgow easily defeated their opponent and finished the game with a score of 9-1.

Sending the first puck between the pipes for the Lady Ice Dawgs was Bailee Holstein. Also contributing in the game for Glasgow were Alex Simensen with 1 goal and 1 assist, Kennedy Schmidt with 2 goals and 2 assists, Baylie Chappell with 1 goal and 3 assists, Josey Uphaus with 1 goal, Amy Fuhrmann with 2 assists, Jaycee Wixson with an assist, and with her first career hat trick, Teagan Fossum.

Goalie Autumn Gault covered the net for the first two periods of the game and had 11 saves. Coming off the bench for the third period was backup goalie Kassie Moore, who had 7 saves of her own.

The following day, the girls were at home for their first home game of two for the weekend, taking on the U19 ladies from Langdon. Before the game began, five of the Lady Ice Dawgs were recognized as departing seniors. Uphaus, Wixson, Brett See, Simensen, and Gault were all escorted onto the ice by various family members and presented with gifts for their years of participation in HiLine Youth Hockey.

At the conclusion of the presentation, game two began. See started off the game with the first score just about half-way through the first period, and would score again late in the second period. Also contributing to the 5-2 win were Schmidt with 2 goals, Simensen with 1 goal and 1 assist, Madison Knodel with 2 assists, Uphaus with 3 assists, and Holstein and Wixson with an assist each.

Gault finished the game with 12 saves.

Sunday morning, the Lady Ice Dawgs faced off against Park River for their final game of the weekend.

Wixson was the first to find the back of the net in the first period of the game and also recorded an assist in the final period. Fossum and Schmidt recorded 2 goals each, See had 1 goal, Simensen scored a hat trick and had 2 assists, Uphaus had 1 goal and 1 assist, and Knodel and Heidi Moon each had an assist.

Gault had a shut out with 8 saves and the Lady Ice Dawgs finished the game with a team shut out and a final score of 10-0.

U14

The U14 Lady Ice Dawgs had only one opportunity to play with a game on Saturday against the Mandan Braves at home. Although the Glasgow girls fought the good fight, they were unable to get the puck past their opponent's goalie. Glasgow's goalie, Lizzy Nyquist worked hard in the contest and recorded 31 saves in the game.

Squirts

The Squirts traveled to Billings for the weekend to take on the Havre 2 team and the Billings Yellow team.

Starting with a game against Billings on Friday evening, the Squirts easily defeated their opponent 8-1 in a clean, low penalty game.

Trevor Dulaney started the game off with a goal in the first period, and would pick up another goal and an assist before the game ended. Scoring a hat trick plus one was Tatum Hansen. Also contributing were Zevin Kummerfeldt with 1 goal and 1 assist, Connor Koski with 1 goal, and Aiden Price with an assist.

Goalie Kolten Hansen finished the game with 4 saves.

In an early morning game on Saturday, the Squirts faced Billings for the second time. Scoring was more balanced between the two teams this time, and the game ended with a score of 7-4 in favor of Glasgow.

Dulaney led the scoring in this game with 4 goals and an assist to his name. Also contributing were T. Hansen with 2 goals, Koski with a goal, and Kummerfeldt with an assist.

K. Hansen finished the game with 11 saves.

The Squirts would play two more games on Saturday against Havre, and would come away with the win both times. In the first game, despite several tripping penalties, Glasgow defeated the Ice Hawks with a score of 13-6. Dominating the scoring for the Squirts were both T. Hansen and Dulaney. Hansen finished the game with 7 goals and an assist, and Dulaney found the back of the net 5 times. Mason Hunter sent one between the pipes in the third period, and Koski and Lex Fairclough each recorded an assist.

K. Hansen logged 16 saves.

In their final game of the weekend, the Squirts faced the Havre Ice Hawks for the second time. In a repeat of the games played against Billings, Glasgow's opponent fared better against them the second time around. Although Glasgow defeated the Ice Hawks 5-3, it was with a considerably smaller margin than their game earlier in the day. T. Hansen would finish the game with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Hunter and Dulaney both sent one between the pipes to add to the final score.

K. Hansen had another 14 saves.

Interestingly, the Glasgow Squirts managed to rack up 7 penalties in the game, while their opponent drew zero calls.

Peewees

The Peewee Ice Dawgs split four games at home against Great Falls and Helena. Beginning the four game stretch with a Friday evening game against the Great Falls Junior Americans, Glasgow was able to squeak out a win with a score of 7-6. Colter Barnett led the scoring with a hat trick plus one goal. Nik Burke sent two in the net, and Ian Peterson recorded 1 goal and 1 assist. Also contributing in the game were Michael Hoyer, Tori Pehlke, and Jack Cornwell each with one assist.

Goalie Aidan Wilkowski had 8 saves.

On Saturday, the Peewees were unable to find any success, losing both of games they played. In the first game against Great Falls, Glasgow was outscored 4-2, with Burke and Hoyer recording the two goals of the game.

Wilkowski prevented 16 of 20 attempts by the Americans.

The second game of the day found Glasgow facing the Helena Bighorns. Despite 4 goals scored by Barnett in the game, the Peewees were unable to catch the Bighorns and lost with a final score of 9-4.

Again, Wilkowski had 16 saves.

The final game of the weekend for the Peewees was held Sunday morning against the Helena Bighorns. The results of the game were a complete reversal of the game on Saturday, with Glasgow winning with a score of 10-4.

Barnett would finish the game with another 4 goals and 2 assists, Gage Siefert recorded 1 goal and 1 assist, Burke had 2 goals and Peterson had 3 of his own. Hoyer contributed with 3 assists.

Wilkowski denied the puck 11 times.

At the end of the weekend, the Ice Dawgs scored a total of 80 goals and recorded 43 assists and 165 saves.
