Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

City Council Update

The Glasgow City Council met for a brief, post-holiday session in council chambers on Jan. 4.

Among the agenda items addressed were the approval of two Dry Prairie Rural Water easments. Both are located along Skylark Road (from Roy Jimison's property to land leased by the city from Sunnyside Golf & Country Club). The easements will grant Dry Prairie's contractor a corridor to maintain and repair 3,500 feet of water line serving Valley County residents.

Also approved was the hiring of Glasgow resident Tasha Morehouse-Mix for the position of Drug Court Coordinator.

Rod Karst was appointed Council President with no opposition.

During reports from city department heads, Street Shop Foreman Karl Krause kept a positive attitude despite mechanical difficulties experinced during recent incliment weather conditions. "Cold weather brings out the worst in vehicles," he explained. This apparent understatement was followed by a short list of vehicles and equipment currently in need of repair, and an insistance that his crew would nonetheless get the job done. He credited members of his team with keeping the clearing of streets and other responsibilities well in hand.

Mayor Becky Erickson has provided the Courier with a detailed breakdown of the distribution of grants raised by the council's "crack team" in the amount of a whopping $697,044. Look for more on that in next week's edition.

At the conclusion of the Jan. 4 meeting, Recreation Director Jory Casterline, members of the recreation board, the mayor, and council members extended their appreciation to David Irving, who has stepped down from the rec board after nearly 15 years of valued service.
