Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Jada Sudbrack Leads Lady Mavs

Although fighting a bout with what she thought was stomach flu, North Country Mavericks sophomore Jada Sudbrack had a stellar game which started off with her hitting two KWAs, a normal point and a BWA in the first minute and a half of play. Yikes, friends, it was something to see! Of the Mavericks' 22 total kills Jada had 12 of them. She also led the team in blocked shots with two of the team’s five blocks.

That first game was a good game with both sides playing very well indeed, but the Mavericks came up a bit short on the scoreboard, losing 25-19. The Lady Mavs just couldn’t get the breaks that often decide the outcome of a match. Like when a ball rolls across the top of the net and falls onto your side for a pernt for the other side. Or a kill is just off the fingertips of your defender but she just can’t make the play even tho’ she’s laid flat out on the floor in her attempt. That happened to the Mavs' Tatum Moore a couple or more times throughout the match. Just barely out of reach. Of the team’s 25 digs however, Tatum dug up 14 of them for a great defensive match.

Senior Delaney Beil tallied 10 of the team's 10 assists, Payton Chopper contributed two of the Mavs' five aces while Bailey Funk, Mickayla Johnson and Casity Boucher played their usual hard-fought game coming up with some great plays, one-armed saves and digs along with a BWA or two.

As usual, it was exciting to watch as I have mentioned several occasions. It isn’t dull and boring as it was when the only time a point was scored was when the serving team scored. You couldn’t score points on defense. I’ve seen people grow old watching matches where no points were scored for decades. Ain’t that-away any more. There are points scored with every serve and the games progress rather rapidly, full of fast-paced action and lots of “how did she do that?”s.

But that night it was pretty much a repeat of the Saco meeting earlier for these two teams. Scobey won in three, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-19. Scobey is still undefeated in conference play at 6-0 while the Lady Mavericks are 3-3.

But as most times happens with teams from these three towns, Saco, Hinsdale and Whitewater, it is customary for them to peak just about tournament time. It ain’t over till the. . . (oh heck, I can’t say that anymore), so I’ll simply say it’s ain’t over til it’s over.

And remember, “If your phone doesn’t ring, it’ll be me.”

That’s it for now folks. Thanks for listening.
