GHS All-Sports Banquet Resurrected

Three Seniors Awarded Golden Scotties

It takes a village to raise a child. Or, in this case, it takes a community to produce outstanding athletes. Sponsored by the Scottie Booster Club, the GHS All-Sports Athletic Banquet was held Tuesday, May 26th in the St Raphael's Gymnasium. The banquet was resurrected by current GHS activity director, Brenner Flaten, who hosted the event. Keynote speaker was Jeff Graham from Belt, Mont. Graham teaches middle school and high school history, weight training, and K-12 P.E. He is the head coach for football, girls basketball, track and field, and is also the athletic director for Belt Schools. Graham's message to the audience was all about setting and achieving goals: Fix your rudder, set your course, and accomplish your goals. Based on the awards and accolades handed out that night, I'm not sure this particular audience needed any help with that. Seems like most Scottie athletes are pretty good at achieving goals. Granted, they manage to do it with help and support from friends, family, teammates, coaches and community.

Following Graham's message, coaches representing each of the Scottie sports took the opportunity to share their own thoughts and recognize their athletes. Needless to say, goal-setting was a recurrent theme and Scottie pride was prevalent. Flaten also took time to recognize Mark Falcon, longtime head coach for Scottie softball. After coaching the Scottie girls in softball for twelve years, he has decided to resign from the position. Flaten expressed personal gratitude for Falcon and shared some of his career highlights. The final awards presented were the "Golden Scotties". To earn a Golden Scottie award, GHS athletes must participate as an athlete, manager, or cheerleader for Glasgow athletics during all twelve seasons of their high school career and maintain full academic eligibility for all eight semesters of their high school career. The third and final requirement: no infractions of GHS training rules during all twelve seasons of their high school career. Three deserving high school seniors, Amy Breigenzer, Eddie Daggett, and Chase Fossum, managed to fulfill those requirements. They were each presented an engraved Golden Scottie Award and recognized for their accomplishments. Longtime Scottie supporter, Paul Clemmer, class of 1977, helped sponsor the Golden Scottie awards this year with a generous contribution.
