Gary Maurice Johnston

Gary Maurice Johnston, 66, of Spokane, Wash., passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. He suffered a long, hard battle with COPD.

He was born in Glasgow, Mont., on May 11, 1948, the son of Clifford and Ida Johnston. He grew up and attended schools in Glasgow. After high school he moved to Great Falls, where he met Bonnie Clark, who would become his wife on Nov. 18, 1967. He was employed by the Bonanza Meat Packing Company in Great Falls and later transferred to the Spokane, Wash., facility. In the later years he worked for Deerpark Heating & Air Conditioning, Sterling Business Forms and delivered the Spokesman Review newspaper for 30 years.

He was well respected and loved by all who knew him. He was hardworking and took good care of his family. He had a unique sense of humor and loved to visit with friends and family. Every time someone asked him about his children, he never failed to say how proud he was of them. In later years, his hobby was cutting pictures with his scroll saw. He did exceptional work and tried to make a picture for each family member.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Bonnie; five children, Michelle Rogers of Spokane, Wash.; David and his wife, Gloria, of Lynnwood, Wash., Jason and his wife, Jackie, of Odessa, Wash., Caleb and his wife, Melody, of Moses Lake, Wash., and Megan Farr and her husband, Chad, of Spokane; 14 grandchildren, Katyanna, Sidney, Samara, Abby, Brandon, Clifford, Jordan, Payton, Bradley, Eric, Colton, Cady, McKenna, and Aiden; four sisters, Doris Franzen of Glasgow, Shirley Clark of Belgrade, Faye Thompson of Wenatchee, Wash., and Penny Dunkin of Belgrade; one brother, Bud Johnston, and his wife, Rita, of Belgrade; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way in Spokane.
