Alberta B. Gibson

Alberta B. Gibson, 71, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at her home in Wolf Point, Mont.

She was born April 6, 1943, in Bismarck, N.D., to Floyd and Ruby Cowles. She grew up with her two sisters, Roberta and Wanda, helping their folks work cattle, riding and enjoying the ranching life. She attended school in Wyola and graduated high school in Lodge Grass.

She married Dale Gibson on June 10, 1961, and two sons were born to this union, Shane and Shawn. She and Dale were later divorced.

She loved the outdoors, and had numerous hobbies including hunting, fishing and horseback riding. She also attended many outdoor women's workshops, including canoeing, archery, rafting and outdoor survival classes. At age 69, after battling cancer for two years, she bought a kayak and enjoyed kayaking on Fort Peck Lake.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and all of the trips they took together. A favorite memory of theirs was a weekend they spent together at the lake, spending time at the cabin and paddle boating.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd, and mother, Ruby.

Survivors include two sisters, Roberta Cowles of Billings and Wanda Steele and her husband, Champ, of Gillette, Wyo .; two sons, Shane Gibson and his wife, Diann, of Wolf Point and Shawn Gibson and his wife, Wanda, of Kirby, Mont .; four grandchildren, Jamie and Traci Gibson, Jaelyn Walters and her husband, Justin, and Lane Gibson; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Newt Walters; and many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point, with a reception following at the church. Graveside services were held in Billings, Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Mount View Cemetery. A reception followed at the Holiday Inn Convention center in Billings.

Bell Mortuary in Glasgow was in charge of the arrangements.
