Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Ruth E. Olsen

Ruth E. Olsen, 92, passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Valley View Nursing Home.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, with interment in Highland Cemetery.

She was born April 29, 1922, in Glasgow to Henrik P. and Anna M. (Poulsen) Olsen, Danish immigrants. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1942.

She was employed by FW Woolworth for 26 years, retiring in 1987. She enjoyed her time at FW Woolworth, but most of all cherished the friendships she made with longtime customers and fellow co-workers that carried on well into her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, cooking, bingo, taking long walks and socializing with her friends. Her needlework was a regular entrant into the Valley County Fair, with many ribbons to show for her craftsmanship.

Throughout her life, she was known for her loyalty and generosity to all of her family and friends, as well as for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was lovingly referred to as "Auntie" by her six nieces and nephews as well as countless great- and great-, great-nieces and nephews. Her constant and steady demeanor made her a great listener and source of support and encouragement for numerous family members and friends over the years.

She moved from her longtime home of 55 years on Jet Drive in Glasgow to Prairie Ridge Village in April, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Lovetta Coles; and three brothers, Paul (Hoot), George and Robert Olsen.

Survivors include four nieces, Nancy Scott of Tucson, Ariz., Charlotte Hrabak of Glasgow, Darcy Doke of Blaine, Minn., Carrie Wilson of Scobey; two nephews, Robert Olsen of Glasgow and John Olsen of Miles City; and a sIster-in-law, Beverly Olsen. Charlotte was her loving caregiver for several years.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
