Gerald Lee Lone Bear

Gerald Lee Lone Bear, 52, of Poplar, Mont., left to be with dearly departed loved ones on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Poplar Community Hospital in Poplar, Mont.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1961, to Irene Martin Philbrick and Adelbert Lone Bear Sr. in Stanley, N.D. He took Nelson "Bud" Philbrick as his stepfather. He grew up in New Town, N.D., Glasgow, Brockton and Poplar, where he resided.

He worked for many years as a farmer in Brockton and he also did some firefighting. He loved being around his children and grandchildren very much. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting, reading, root digging, listening to his music, sightseeing, telling his stories, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed working on his vehicles.

He met Nicole Longee early in his life and they were together for 13 years. From this union three children were born.

Survivors include children, Cristy Lone Bear (Marcus Big Leggin) of Wolf Point, Janna Lone Bear (Steve Bear Cub) of Poplar, Alex Lone Bear of Poplar and also Loren Longee (Ryan Lenz) of Poplar, whom he raised as his own.

Later he met Patricia Red Star, and they remained together up until his passing.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kadan Fast Horse, Brylee Bear Cub, Kyonna Fast Horse, Brayden Bear Cub and Bailey Bear Cub; two sisters, Karen Cain and her husband, Craig, of Poplar, and Patricia Philbrick of Brockton; three brothers, Adelbert Lone Bear Jr. and Marty Lone Bear Sr., both of Poplar, and Henry Lone Bear and his wife, Noreen, of Brockton; an uncle, Victor Fast Horse and his wife, Margaret, of Billings; an aunt, Gloria Diserly and her husband, Arlie; nephews, Gary Lone Bear, Ian Lone Bear, Luke Lone Bear, Marshall Cain, Nathan Lone Bear, Marty Lone Bear Jr., and Matthew (Alex) James; nieces, Jamie Granbois and her husband, Rick, Colleen Cain, Lacey Lone Bear, Irene Lone Bear, Mandy Berwick, Michelle Lone Bear, Nicole Lone Bear, Janet Lone Bear, Blessing Lone Bear, Breanne Cantrell and her husband, Austin, Denise Fast Horse, Ja Sara and Iva Todd, along with numerous other nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and the family relatives from Fort Berthold, Standing Rock and Fort Belknap.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Martin Philbrick and Adelbert Lone Bear Sr.; a brother, Max Lone Bear; an adopted brother, Dennis Red Boy Sr.; three sisters, Joan Fast Horse, Roberta Lone Bear and Delphine Lone Bear; a niece, Cricket Lone Bear; a nephew, Jeremy Lone Bear; one grandmother, Julia Ireland Fast Horse; five uncles, Fred Gunn, Lester Lone Bear, Austin Lone Bear, Benjamin Lone Bear, and Thomas Martin; and three aunts, Alline Lone Bear, Naomi Foolish Bear, and Cecelia Martin.

Our apologies to anyone we may have forgotten to mention as he had many family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A vigil service was held Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at the Brockton Cultural Center in Brockton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at the Brockton Cultural Center in Brockton, with interment following at the Riverside Cemetery west of Brockton.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
