Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Lois Ione Thoeny

Lois Ione (Farquhar) Thoeny was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Glasgow, Mont., to Howard and Fern Farquhar, and died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at age 76.

She married Art Thoeny on Feb. 2, 1957. They moved from Glasgow to Libby about 1970. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Miles City in 1961 and was faithful in sharing her beliefs with others as the Bible commands.

She worked with Art to raise their children according to the principles and values of the Bible, which resulted in a well-disciplined, loving, close family.

She had a quiet, pleasant disposition, but was not a pushover. Her husband often commented that she would never disagree with him, but would then "do darn well as she pleased."

She loved her plants and flower gardens and was a wonderful seamstress and homemaker until dementia changed her life. Over the past 15 years she became a renowned Houdini and masterful maker of toast as the disease took over. Sadly, she took a sudden down turn at the end of February and died from complications of her disease.

Her family is glad that she is no longer suffering and is looking forward to seeing her again when the Bible's promised resurrection takes place here on a paradise earth.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Thoeny (after a marriage of 57 years); one brother, Ken Farquhar and his wife, Deloris; four sons and two daughters, Dan Thoeny and his wife, Gloria, of Glasgow, Mike Thoeny and his wife, Michele, of Libby, Judi Thoeny Brown and her husband, Brad, of Seattle, Wash., Sharlene Thoeny Barnette and her husband, Tren, of Tucson, Ariz., Brian Thoeny and his wife, Taunya, of Seattle, and Ben Thoeny and his wife, Becky, of Glasgow; 13 grandchildren, Andrea, Dawn, Alisa, Devon, Georgie, Ciera, Cameron, Chelsie, Zach, Alacia, Taylor, Kelsey and Kade; and one great-granddaughter, Mercedes.

Memorial services were March 29 at Libby Memorial Center.

Arrangements were by Schnackenberg and Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory in Libby.
