Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Wrestling Club Dominates

The Glasgow Highlander wrestlers were in action this weekend at the Poplar Invitational.

Over 250 local wrestlers crammed into the Poplar High School gymnasium for an action packed day of competition.

Thirty eight future Scottie wrestlers made the trip and it was a successful weekend for each of the young competitors.

This tournament kicked off the folkstyle season, after competing in freestyle and Greco the past month and half.

Fourteen individuals were able to claim championships and took home trophies for their accomplishment.

“We’ve had a good month of practice and these kids were hungry for some live competition” said coach Jory Casterline. “Getting them experience before they head out longer distances with tougher competition is the key”.

Six older wrestlers also competed in the prestigious Cyclops event in Butte on Sunday and Butte Middle School tournament on Saturday.

Matt Reyling claimed third place on Saturday and second place on Sunday, Sky Buckles a pair of second places,

Dylan Nieskens third place on Sunday, Colten Fast third place on Saturday and Tel Aune with a first place finish on Sunday. Cael Swanson also competed very well at Butte.

“This weekend exposed the kids to some elite competition. Wrestlers from Wyoming, Montana and Idaho were there,” said Casterline. “We need to wrestle these kinds of kids if we want to get back to the top”.

The Glasgow Wrestling club will host their annual Spaghetti Feed this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the ELKS with the Pie Auction fund raiser to follow. Please come out and support your future Scottie wrestlers.
