Scotties Catch A Break

The Glasgow boys basketball team received great news about the status of senior guard Lane Herbert after a foot injury in last Thursday’s game against Harlem.

Herbert has a bruised ligament in the top of his foot in what he says doctors are calling a strained arch. Herbert is hoping that if everything goes right with the healing process, he should be back in time for Districts.

Scotties head coach Norm Braaten said there is no rush in getting Herbert back on the court.

“I want him healthy for Districts so if that means not playing this weekend so be it,” Braaten said. “We have enough quality kids to be able to rest Herbert and have some added depth for next weekend.”

Even with the scare, Braaten is still able to laugh about the play now knowing that one of the team’s biggest 3-point threats is fine.

“Like Lane said, it’s the first time he blocked out all year and he’s not going to do it again,” Braaten said with a laugh.

The Scotties hosted Plentywood on Saturday minus Herbert. None of that mattered as Chase Fossum continued his superb play in the paint on his way to a 22 point night to lead all scorers as Glasgow cruised to a 59-40 victory.

Glasgow wraps up the regular season this week with a game Friday at Malta and then Glasgow returns home Saturday night with a showdown against Poplar.

The current Class B rankings have Glasgow at No. 3 and Malta at No. 6. The rankings will be updated later today after this article went to print.
