Jacob DeBray

Jacob DeBray, 74, passed away from natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at his home in Fort Peck, Mont.

He was born April 18, 1939, in Glasgow, the son of Leo and Pauline (Lenz) DeBray. He graduated from Glasgow High School and worked at Joe's Meat Market, Ryans in Havre, the City of Glasgow, and then for Montana Dakota Utilities from 1959 to 1976 when he retired.

On June 21, 1959, he married Marla Bollinger in Nashua. They lived in Glasgow and in 2008 moved to Fort Peck.

He was active with the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, served on the Selective Service Board from 1970 to 1976, on the City Recreation Board in 1971, and the US Army Reserve 1957–1964 with Honorable Discharge.

He raised a huge garden after retirement, was known for his cantaloupe, watermelon, and bushels of tomatoes. He also raised pigs and hay. He was well known for his hunting, fishing, and trapping skills and always wanted to show someone his catfishing technique. He was an accomplished oil painter, mainly old buildings. He loved to roam the hills of the "South" country. His children learned the love of the outdoors from him.

Survivors include his wife, Marla DeBray, of Fort Peck; three sons, Gary DeBray and his wife, Brenda, of Livingston, Shaun DeBray and his wife, Christy, of Elko, Nev., and Darren DeBray and his wife, Terri, of Port Angeles, Wash .; one daughter, Sonya Pankratz and her husband, Chuck, of Great Falls; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren ,; one sister, Theresa Shipp, of Glasgow; and cousins, Sally Powell of Glasgow and John Lenz of Washington.

A family visitation service was Feb. 1 at Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Friends visited family at 6 p.m.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
