Audrey I. Parke

Audrey I. (Johnson) Parke, 91, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah after suffering a heart attack while spending the holidays with her son in Park City, Utah.

Born of Swedish immigrants, Oscar Johnson and Tekla Engstrom, on April 19, 1922, in Glasgow, she spent her early childhood on the family homestead southwest of Glasgow. The family moved to town so she could attend school and graduated as valedictorian from Glasgow High School in 1940.

After graduating from Northwestern Business College in Spokane, Wash., she returned to Glasgow and worked at the Valley County Treasurer's Office where she met her husband, Artie. They were married June 17, 1944, and she continued to work there for a few years after her two children were born, but in the early fifties decided to stay at home to raise the children. During the years of raising the family, she was Glasgow's city treasurer, a part-time job, which could be done mostly from home. After her daughter, Ardis, graduated from GHS in 1967, she went back to work at the County Treasurer's office and officially retired in 1985.

During "retirement," she became treasurer of the Valley County Historical Society for 15 years and continued to be very active in the First Lutheran Church of Glasgow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; one daughter, Ardis Fuhrman; and one sister, Ruth Forsythe.

Survivors include one son, Jim and Marilyn Southland Sellers of Lake Keowee, S.C., and Park City; a son-in-law, Dennis Fuhrman and Catherine of Sarasota, Fla .; one granddaughter, Dacia Gonzales and her husband, Robert, of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Brett Fuhrman and Karen of Arlington, Mass., and Trevor Fuhrman and Lauren of Denver, Colo .; a niece, Carol Cotton of Glasgow; and four great-grandchildren, Alex Gonzales, Hannah Fuhrman, Will Fuhrman and Andrew Fuhrman.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, followed by interment in the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.

Suggested memorial recipients are the GHS Educational Trust and the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow.
