Magdalina E. 'Maggie' Franzen
Magdalina E. "Maggie" (Schelert) Franzen, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, of natural causes at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont.
A vigil service will be held Friday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m., both at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Glasgow. Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1924, in Woodworth, N.D., the daughter of Albert and Lydia (Fauth) Schelert. She was raised on the family homestead near Larslan, attended North Fuhrman School through the 8th grade, moved into Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1946. She worked at the Five & Dime in Glasgow.
She married William Franzen on Nov. 11, 1948, in Glasgow. She loved gardening and flowers, loved sewing, and was an avid weather observer. She kept a daily "journal." She especially enjoyed Bingo. Her life centered around her family, she loved them all. They were very active in St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the Glasgow Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franzen, in November of 1996; by three brothers, Joseph Schelert, Rudy Schelert and Albert Schelert; and a granddaughter, Kayleen Franzen.
Survivors include four children, Bill Franzen of Glasgow, Lorna Pitman and her husband, Wayne, of Gillette, Wyo., Lyle Franzen and his wife, Dee Dee, of Glasgow, and Dale Franzen and his wife, Augie, of Gillette, Wyo .; 12 grandchildren, Brad Pitman, Heather Botelho, Amanda Spears, Angela Pitman, Matthew Pitman, Billy John Franzen, Ross Franzen, Jesse Franzen, Jennifer Franzen, Crystal Brogdon, Michelle Abbott, Tracy Hoogshagen; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five brothers and five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
