The Glasgow High School Speech & Drama Team traveled to Billings Saturday to compete at the Billings Central Invitational Meet. Twenty-six schools competed at this meet, including two AA – Billings West and Bozeman.
There were over 270 kids participating. The Glasgow team came home with the third place Class B Drama trophy.
Coach John LaBonty said, “It’s good experience for our team to participate in a big meet against schools that we won’t see again until State.”
These teams include Columbus, Joliet, and Red Lodge.
Two senior Scotties took first place honors. Bridger Sanders’ pantomime piece “Tango for Two” was awarded all first places by the three finals judges which combined with his earlier scores earned him a medal. Kyle Cook continued her winning streak in Serious Solo, again bringing home a medal.
Competing in the Humorous Duo category were the tandems of Rachel Overby and James Fauth as well as Amanda McDonald and Paige Schmitt.
The speech team ran into serious competition from the AA junior varsities. Of the nine Scotties, three made it to the final round.
Andy Brandt, Ember Barnett and Amber Omara competed in Humorous Oral Interpretation . Maria Morris participated in the Serious Oral Interpretation and Jared Chambers and Rachel Sigmundstad took part in the Impromptu Category.
After Christmas Break, the Team will return to competition at the Glendive and Culbertson Invitational Meets.
The Eastern Divisional Meet is on January 24th in Shepherd. Students must place in the top six at Divisional to move onto state competition.
The coaches are hoping that Glasgow will qualify many people for State since we are hosting this huge event on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
Judges are still needed for the State Meet. Please call Sharon LaBonty at 263-9208 to volunteer or for more information.
