Scottie Grapplers Win 32 Matches In Havre Tournament

The Glasgow Scotties wrestling team kicked off their season with a bang over the weekend at the Havre Invite.

Sophomore Cody King was the big winner over the weekend placing fourth in his weight class as he went 8-1 in the two day tournament.

King ultimately had to settle for fourth place in the tournament as he had wrestled the maximum allotted number of matches on the second day.

"He reached that five match maximum before the match for third and fourth place," said Scotties head coach Trevor Newman.

Although Newman would've loved to see King wrestle for that third place finish in the 132 pound weight class, he realizes the limit of matches per day is there for a reason.

"It would've been interesting, but the rules are in there and there's nothing we can do about it," Newman said. "It is the very first competition and had nine matches in two days. That's a ton to start off the season with."

Another Scottie who performed well at the tournament is junior Jake Hentges, who went 3-0 on the first day of the tournament in the 138-pound weight class.

"He had a fantastic first day," said Newman. "He just got a terrible draw into the tournament portion on Saturday and ran into two tough wrestlers right off the bat."

Glasgow will travel to compete in the Fergus mixer on Thursday and then return home to host the Glasgow Inivite on Saturday. Teams scheduled to compete in the tournament at Glasgow range are Malta, Lewiston, Poplar, Wolf Point, Circle and Chinook. Havre and Great Falls could send their JV teams, but that has yet to be confirmed for sure.

The Glasgow Invite starts this Saturday at Noon at Glasgow.
