Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Committee Appointments Made

Appointments for the Glasgow Levee Safety Committee were finalized at the last city council meeting, and in the same week a local Glasgow rancher was reappointed to the state Private Land Public Wildlife Advisory Council (PLPWAC).

Gov. Steve Bullock announced that Jack Billingsley would be appointed to the PLPWAC. His qualifications listed being that he’s a rancher in Valley County. Billingsley confirmed the appointment and said that the committee is looking at some possible changes. They will be addressing what the current goals will be and where they are headed.

He added that the council will deal with issues related to hunters, anglers, landowners and outfitters. They’ll also deal with funding access and enhancement programs. The committee has a broad representation of landowners, outfitters and sportspersons.

Billingsley will serve on the council with Rod Bullis of Helena, Dwayne Andrews of Miles City, Dan Fiehrer of Helena, Lisa Flowers of Choteau, Kathy Hadley of Deer Lodge, Blake Henning of Missoula, Rep.Tom Jacobson of Great Falls, Denley Loge of St. Regis, Sen. Jim Peterson of Buffalo, and Sen. Kendall Van Dyk of Billings.

The Glasgow City Council also appointed the Levee Safety Committee on Monday, Dec. 16. The committee will help deal with issues and improvements requested by the Army Corp of Engineers. Council members Dan Durell, Rod Karst and Melanie Sorenson will serve with current Mayor Dan Carney, Director of Public Works Bob Kompel, John Fontaine, Larry Mires and Alicia Doke.

Kompel mentioned in his update to the city council that the Mike Kaiser is laying out control points and marking the center line of the Levee, making it easier to see the alignment and determine distances to property lines and structures. He hopes to present three quotes at the next city council meeting for tree removal services along the Levee. The fire department is in the process of reviewing areas and logistics to do some of the tree cutting work.
