James Vernon 'Jim' Lund Sr.

James Vernon “Jim” Lund Sr., 82, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Missoula Health and Rehabilitation Center in Missoula, Mont.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1931, at Hinsdale, Mont., the son of Hilmer and Anna Bertha (Croston) Lund.

He attended schools in Hinsdale until completing the eighth grade when he went to work on the family ranch. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea where he operated heavy equipment and was also the captain of the Army Boxing Team. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart.

Following his discharge, he lived in Rock Springs, Wyo., where he owned and operated his own welding business for many years. He was an avid hunter and also was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, American Legion Post and the Eagles Lodge, all in Rock Springs.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

He is survived by one son, Jim Lund Jr. of Belfield, N.D; one daughter, Kathy Speldrich of Sidney; his former wife, Dolores Renner of Dickinson, N.D.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Lund of Conrad, and Bill Lund of Missoula.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Hillview Cemetery at Hinsdale. The honorary pall bearer was Clark Stafford of Rock Springs.

Arrangements are under the directions of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
