XC Girls First, Boys Fifth At Havre Meet

Runners Do Well On Windy, Chilly, Confusing Course

 


The Glasgow Scotties girls cross country team took first with a score of 39 points in Havre. The boys cross country team placed fifth with 161.

The day started out at 5:45 a.m., when the runners boarded the bus and set off to Havre. It was a windy and chilly day, according to coach Rod Karst, and probably the most confusing course the Scotties have run on.

“It went really well,” Rachel Zeiger said. “They had a very nice packs in both varsity and JV, and hopefully that will reflect in State.”

The Scottie girls took first again with 39 points. Josie Braaten crossed the finish line in first with a time of 19:10 and then it was Rachael Zeiger in third (19:34), Emma Fewer in ninth (20:28), and Amanda Wolff in 10th (20:35).

Following were Amanda McDonald in 13th (21.06), Ellen Walstad in 16th (21:12), and Julia Kolstad in 30th (23:09).

As for the JV girls, the times and finishes were as follows: Alex Simensen (21:27) taking third; Faith Sallee in fifth (23:32); Kerry Hoffman with a sixth (23:34), Brinlie Nielsen taking eighth (24:00), Mary Fewer (24:27) in ninth, and then Rachel Overby (28:35).

“It was a fast course and we had a lot of personal bests. It’s awesome to have everyone pushing to go faster every meet,” said Walker Allen.

Allen came in first for the boys team, placing 20th with a time of 17:45, and Bridger Sanders followed closely behind in 25th with a time of 17:56. Matthew Phillips was right behind Bridger with a time of 17:58 with a 26th finish, and then it was Kasey Seyfert 41st (19:11), Braden Meland 49th (19:44), Ethan Jamba 57th (20:45) and Andrew Fransen 61st (21:55).

As for the JV boys, their times and finishes are as follows: Chase Hughes 16th (20:46), Anthony Kaiser 21st (22:07), Jared Chalmers 22nd (22:17), Logan Gunderson 25th (23:28) and Kevin Frigon 28th (25:58).

Team scores

Girls: Glasgow 39, Havre 84, Malta 85, Browning 99, Belt/Centerville 119, Lewistown 126, Cut Bank 160.

Boys:Browning 54, Lewistown 56, Havre 89, Belt/Centerville 119, Glasgow 161, Cut Bank 171, Shelby 189.

TEAM NOTES

Amanda McDonald, who ran well two years ago as a sophomore and moved out of the district last year, is back as a senior and contribuing to the defending state champions. Two weeks ago, she placed 10th in the Glasgow Invitational with a time of 20;30.
