Oscar Ronald Everson

Oscar Ronald Evenson, 82, died Sept. 22, 2013, in Salem, Ore.

Graveside services will be held in Fosston, Minn., during the summer of 2014.

He was born the fifth of six children on March 26, 1931, to Oscar C. and Ruth B. Evenson, on the family farm in Bejou Township, Minnesota. He attended grade school at both Harvey and Bejou Elementary and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1949.

After a two-year army career in the medical corps, he married Vivian Marie Whaley on July 2, 1956, in Fosston, Minn.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from Bemidji State College. During those years of college, daughter Patti was born. His career included teaching business and driver education courses, coaching and driving school bus. He taught in Opheim, Crookston, Minn., and Cascade, Mont. “Mr. E” had a natural gift for teaching and had a positive impact on all. He was respected and loved by students, fellow instructors and administrators.

After retirement, he and Vivian moved to Salem, to be near their daughter, son-in-law and only grandchild. He enjoyed a particularly close relationship with his granddaughter, Kayla, who is in college. He and Vivian played a major role in her rearing and education.

He left us with a legacy of humor, caring, giving, and loving. His family, friends and acquaintances have been truly blessed to be a part of Ron’s life. We are happy to know twe will see him again in heaven.

He and Vivian have been active members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Salem. He was in the American Legion, the Montana Education Association, and the Montana Traffic Education Association.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Bradley (and Bradley’s wife, Alice, and their son, David); four brothers-in-law, Dale Hess, Lloyd Persson, Ralph Willmert and Dick Helland; and one sister-in-law, Janet Helland.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian; one daughter, Patti; one son-in-law, Greg; and one granddaughter, Kayla, all of Salem, Ore.; four sisters, Jeanette Willmert of Anoka, Minn., Gloria Hess of Centralia, Wash., Corrine Persson of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Irene Hundtofte and her husband, Reuben, of Sidney; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Whaley and his wife, Joan, of Fargo, N.D., and Richard Whaley and his wife, Caroline, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom qualifies as Uncle Ron’s favorite.
