Nellie Baerg

Nellie Baerg, 94, of Livingston, died August 16, 2013, at Livingston HealthCare with her family by her side.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nellie’s life at a luncheon at the Glasgow First Baptist Church annex on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m.

She was born on June 15, 1919, in Lustre, Mont., the daughter of Peter H. and Eva T. (Becker) Unrau. She received her education in Frazer and was valedictorian of the Class of 1938. She earned a teaching degree at Northern Montana College in Havre, and taught one year before moving to Washington, D.C., for a job with the Commerce Department.

She entered active military service in the United States Navy on Aug. 10, 1944, and served her country during WWII. She received an Honorable Discharge on April 5, 1946.

On March 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clarence Baerg at the First Baptist Church in Glasgow. They shared 49 years of marriage. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Bob, Jim, Peggy, Rich and Shirley.

They farmed in Lustre until 1961, when they moved to Glasgow. When the children were older, Nellie went to work at the Glasgow Clinic and then the State of Montana as secretary to the director of Social Services in Glasgow, from which she retired.

She was a member of the VFW in Glasgow and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Livingston. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and emailing with her friends and family. She loved to have visitors and to spend time laughing with her friends at Total Fitness. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Survivors include five children, Bob Baerg and his wife, Deon, of Whidbey Island, Wash., Jim Baerg and his wife, Laurel, of Livingston, Peggy Baus and her husband, Duane, of Maple Valley, Wash., Rich Baerg and his wife, Mikelann, of Livingston, and Shirley Baerg of Lake Stevens, Wash .; seven grandchildren, Rye Baerg and his wife, Adrienne, Cassidy Baerg, Nastia Baerg, Larisa Baerg, Misty Lopez, Don Baus and Dave Baus; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ben Unrau of Glasgow, and Ruth Coulter of Columbia, Md .; a sister-in-law, Margaret Unrau, of Glasgow; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Baerg, who passed away in 1996; three brothers, Henry, Peter, and Toby; and four sisters, Ann, Susan, Eva and Agnes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the food bank or RSVP.
