Scottie Golfers Play State

Experience was the key for Tamrah Pewitt and Makkell Baillargeon in their rounds in Bigfork.

Pewitt and Baillargeon, both sophomores, shot their first rounds of state golf at the Class B tournament on May 21-22 at the Eagle Bend Golf Course.

“The biggest thing was, they’re young golfers and they got a quality experience,” said Head Coach Dave Riggin. “And they improved the second day, which is what we were looking for.”

Pewitt started her tournament with a 127 on Tuesday, the first day of the tournament, and followed with a 124 on Wednesday to bring her two-day tournament total to 251, tied for 54th.

Baillargeon also improved in her second day, shooting a 124 on Wednesday after scoring a 135 the day before, giving her a total of 259 and a tie for 56th.

“They got a quality experience. And experience means a lot in this game,” said Riggin.

The Townsend girls finished with the best team score, 732, and Missoula Loyola was right behind at 745. Loyola had the top two individuals on the girls’ side as Maggie Crippen shot a 150 and Sadie Crippen scored a 155. Townsend’s Bailee Dexter was third at 161.

The Malta girls, the only 1B team in the field, finished in 12th with a score of 1145.

On the boys’ side, Loyola dominated, scoring a 616, almost 100 strokes ahead of Red Lodge’s 709.

Loyola again had the top two individual scores as Tom Swanson shot a 140, 70 both days, and Justin Galiher scored a 152. Plentywood represented the 1B boys, scoring an 806 for 12th place.
