FWP Director To Be In Havre This Week

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Director Jeff Hagener and members of the FWP Commission will be in Havre June 4-5 to host a public open house and conduct the commission’s regular monthly meeting.

The open house for area residents to informally visit with Director Hagener, FWP Commission Chairman Dan Vermillion, and fellow commissioners Richard Stuker, Lawrence Wetsit and Matthew Tourtlotte – as well as other FWP staff -- starts at 6:30 p.m. on June 4 at the Best Western Great Northern Inn’s conference room, 1345 1st Street.

Earlier on June 4 the commissioners will tour the recently acquired Milk River Ranch property northwest of Havre that is now designated as a state wildlife management area.

The commission meeting, which is also open to the public, begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 5 at the Montana State University-Northern’s Applied Technology Center at the Hensler Auditorium on 300 W. 11th Street.

The commission will consider a fishing regulation change on the Blackfoot River and make final decisions on closure rules for the Clark Fork River and Warm Springs wildlife management areas, temporary closures on the Bitterroot River, and decide whether to approve a bag-limit waiver on Lena Lake in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and hear a proposed addition to the Pine Grove Pond Fishing Access Site near Kalispell.

The commission will also consider 2013 elk quota proposals outside the biennial quota ranges, set 2013 quotas for bison, mountain lions and furbearers, discuss proposed elk harvest prescriptions in some archery elk units, decide on a proposed bighorn sheep hunting closure in Hunting District 304, and elect a new vice chairman. Public comment on issues not on the agenda will be accepted starting at approximately 11:15 a.m.

The full agenda for the June 5 meeting and additional information on the scheduled topics can be found on the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov by clicking on the "For Commission Information" section. Live off-site audio and video will not be available for this commission meeting.
