Lady Tracksters Continue Roll

The Scottie girl tracksters are looking like a runaway favorite for divisionals.

The Glasgow girls have won three meets in a row, their most recent a 128-point affair over nine other teams, including four Class A squads, in Glendive on Friday and Saturday.

“Right now, our distance kids are doing really well and our hurdlers are doing really well,” said Head Coach John LaBonty.

It was the distance runs and the hurdles that carried the Scottie girls to the top spot in Glendive, accumulating 70 of their 128 points. Amanda Wolff scored 18 of those points, placing in all three of the runs. She took gold in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 35.82 seconds, and fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200. Josie Braaten scored 16 points by finishing with a silver in the 1,600 at 5:29.54 and the 3,200 at 11:57.68.

Rachael Zeiger joined Braaten and Wolff in the mile run by grabbing fifth. Emma Fewer added four points of her own by finishing fourth in the 800.

The hurdles were headlined by Debra Griebel, who scored 18 points with a gold in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 16.97, and a silver in the 300 hurdles at 49.35. Just two spots behind in both events was Abbi Helland, who took third in the 100 hurdles (17.37) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (52.21), scoring 10 points. Adding a pair of points was Amy Breigenzer, who was just .23 seconds behind Helland in the long hurdles, finishing in 52.44 seconds for fifth.

Those five events would have given the Scottie girls enough points to beat all but two schools at the meet, including Baker, Miles City, Plentywood and Glendive.

Still, the girls had 12 other events to pile on.

That pile started with the girls’ relays.

“Both relays now are hitting pretty well,” said LaBonty.

The 4X100 relay team, consisting of Wolff, Breigenzer, Griebel and Megan Dailey, inched out Hardin by .34 seconds to bring home the gold at 53.51. Wolff and Dailey then joined Zeiger and Helland for the mile relay team, falling just short of Hardin’s mark to take second with a time of 4:25.68.

Zeiger also ran the individual 400, taking bronze with a time of 1:03.13. Griebel and Julia Kolstad rounded out the track events for the Scottie girls with a pair of placements in the 200. Griebel was second at 27.78, just .06 seconds behind Hardin’s Taylor Snider, and Kolstad was sixth.

In the field events, Dailey and sophomore Dana Hughes led the way. Dailey started with a first in the high jump – an event she has won every meet this season – with a leap of 5- 0. She followed that with a fifth in the long jump and a second in the triple jump. Breigenzer snuck in with a sixth in the triple jump as well.

Hughes finished off the Scottie girls’ day with a pair of fifths in the shot put and the javelin.

“She’s going to figure into the mix for us,” said throwing coach Wade Nelson. “For us to get into that trophy mix, I think Dana has to help us.”

Hughes continued to progress to that point in Glendive, setting personal records in all three throwing events.

Overall, 12 PRs were broken by Scottie girls in Glendive.

The Scottie girls will head to Wolf Point on Saturday for a make up meet that was originally scheduled for April 3.
