The temperatures hit triple digits this past weekend which normally brings severe weather warnings. Turns out the real storm threat was Thunder in the pool. Last week Katie Knierim and Kevin Miller donated $25,000 to the Valley County Community Pool Campaign making the total raised $2,518,028, just over the $2.5 million mark, of the $3,304,000 goal needed to build a new pool in Glasgow. The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder Swim Team traveled to Columbia Falls fro the 2021 State Swim meet July 31 and Aug. 1. The team returned with one state champion and a number of swimmers who cracked the top five. Combined, the boys and girls earned 249 points and placed ninth out of the 20 teams at the meet. I am 32-years-old and a mother of one 8-year-old girl who enjoys swim team and swimming for fun. I am looking to raise money to help pay for the Valley County Community Pool. Any amount will help build a new pool. We still need an estimated $1.78 million. We do have a grant in place, but if we do not have the pool completed by 2023, we will lose the grant. To have the pool built by 2023, we would have to start destruction of the current pool by the fall of 2022, and construction by the spring... Full story
The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder traveled to Lewistown this past weekend for the 2021 Eastern Divisional swim meet. After two days of intense competition, the Thunder will be sending 28 swimmers on to the state swim meet in Columbia Falls this Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and Aug. 1. The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder Swim Team kicked off their 2021 season in Harlem on June 5-6 and followed that up with a trip to Glendive June 12-13. Despite a few hurdles, the team has started their season strong under second-year coach Ethan Shrader. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team traveled to Lewistown on July 18 and 19 where they claimed second place, behind first-place Lewistown, competing with the western teams of the eastern division. The teams competing were Malta, Chinook, Harlem, Lewistown, Roundup and Glasgow. The Thunder traveled with 26 athletes out of 150 total swimming in the weekend. The Glasgow Thunder stayed home this past weekend, but did not have to host the latest West of the East meet. That privilege fell to Harlem whose pool is out of commission for the time being, so their swim team has been hitting the road this season. Glasgow native Ethan Shrader has returned to the Bonnie City for the summer to take on the head coach role for the Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team.
